  1. The building you have listed as the Monterey center school is actually the old Township hall. The school is across the road. Also the Fraser school was demolished in the fall of 2016

  2. The photo of the Lindsley school is actually the township hall that is on the same property. Lindsley school was torn down many years ago. Also, the Moon school that was on the corner of 38th and 102nd is part of the Cheshire Hills Golf Course clubhouse.

  3. I have photos of a one-room school on Port Creek Road, Ash Township, Carleton, MI near the Flat Rock Speedway. It was for sale recently, and may soon be torn down. I took photos last night. It is brick, has a full basement (which is crumbling from the inside), has a complete window-wall on the back side overlooking woods and fields, and has two outhouses still in place. I would like to post my photos, but don't know how :-).

  4. The school that you identified as the Monterey Center School is indeed the Monterey Center school and not the township hall that Trainer Bocaj stated

  5. The school ID'ed as Plainview or Twin Maples school is Plainview school but Twin Maples was one name for the Diamond Springs school along with Wakeman. Plainview school's alternitive names were Winchester and Chestog.

  7. Just a comment - The picture of Sycamore School is incorrect. That is a picture of the house that sat on the west side of the school. The school was demolished and replaced by a modern elementary school that is presently in use.

  8. I went to the Oak GRove school near Grand Junction, Mi.in the 1950's. Our school teacher was Miss Milbarker (spelling?) I was at the school about 5 years ago, very difficult to find being overgrown and sadly the school was in such disrepair almost unrecognizable. If anyone has pictures of the school while in operation please let me know.

  9. i attended 3rd grade at Plainview school. i am now 61 yrs. the teacher was Mrs Mays. wonderful woman. she made me stay at bat for about 20 strikes until i finally hit the ball so hard we all had to go look for it. she was the catalyst that made my parents get me eyeglasses. she taught grades 1-6. i learned Daltons atomic theory (6th grade lessons) as a 3rd grader. back then the school house was white with no garage and a corn field to the east with plenty of room to lose softballs. we did find it after a short search

    1. I love seeing this message. We are the current owners of the Plainview schoolhouse. It’s been in our family since the mid 80s and has been our pleasure to own it and try to update it for modern use. My parents have put many years of love into this schoolhouse.

I love when people are able to say “we went to your school” and have wonderful stories to tell. Thank you for this.

You are right, prior to us owning it, it was white and no garage/addition. Those are changes made by us. We reverted it back to red because we found evidence that when originally built it was red and it was painted white in the early 1900s. We were also gifted back the original bell that belonged in the bell tower after it was stolen and vandalized. It was pretty awesome getting that hung back in the bell tower.
