  1. Hello, I am excited to find this website! We live in an old brick school house in Ionia County. Welch School, District #3 1882 on the date stone. Genwebs said this school was established in 1860 so I assume this is the 2nd building (1st building wood?) I have pics from when we purchased it as well as more recent pics. The front was too plain for my liking original, so when the one room school was torn down that was on north side of GrandRiver HWY west off 96 between the 69 entrance and exit ramps we were very sad but got some of the parts form it when we just happened to be going buy on demolition day. I am told it was called Star School. Located in the area of Lookingglass Regional Fire, Flying J Travel Center. It was on the NOrth east corner of some dead end rd I do not remember the name of across from a nice older home that has also sense been torn down so it is hard for us to remember its exact location. I was easily seen from the expressway. ONe of the items we acquired from the star school was the cement decorative headers for 3 windows and 3 of the side pieces to go with them. We used 2 of them headers on the front of our house for windows we added and made an mold with one of the side pieces so we had 2 for each window. I have always regretted we did not have a picture of the Start school! I found your site looking for one to no avail. BUt I did find a picture of an Eaton county school that is now a residence that has the same ornamental headers the star school had in your pictures. Funny we installed the side pieces of the header upside down. I am nor sure how to attach pictures here yet. Maybe I will email them. Thank you! Susan & John
