  1. I just "found" the Oneida District #3 Strange School this weekend, and was fortunate enough to be allowed to see the interior by one of the teachers who happened to be there. They still use the old desks, and the old tin ceiling tiles are still in place; they are in excellent condition. Only one of the original outhouses still exists; the other was removed when an auxiliary classroom was added on the side of the original school building. The building is kept in beautiful condition, and can be a school of choice for families wanting their child to have the one-room educational experience. I would love to share my photos of both the exterior and interior.

  2. The Port Creek school, across the street from 14301 Port Creek Road, Ash Township, Monroe County, is a tin-roofed all brick building facing southwest, with beautiful views from both its front porch, and it's large bank of schoolroom windows. From the outside, it appears quite sound, but the basement walls have deteriorated, have been reinforced, but are now caving in. The interior of the school room has been used for storage of random building supplies and other unrelated items, and is a mess. Both boys and girls outhouses still stand, but the roofs are in poor condition. A lovely location, with a cemetery to the northwest. I have photos to share.
